As a basic foundation, we all need to feel safety and belonging; and a sense of feeling valued and invested in. Without these relationship foundations we are not able to be creative and collaborative.

Direction

We all want direction and meaning in our work – clarity of why this organisation exists, where we’re going, and how we’ll get there. We want to have some involvement in shaping this, too.

Participation

We need to see leaders role-modelling our shared mission and values, and trusting us to be active participants in bringing them to life. The change is done with us, not to us.

What leaders often get wrong

In today’s crazy-busy, fast-changing world, it’s not surprising that gaps open up between senior leaders and their teams.

Engaging workforces as creative contributors to direction-setting, and as active partners in change, takes time and effort.
